Celebrating Five Years: Reflections on Launching a Coaching Business During COVID

As I sit down to write this blog post, I find myself both amazed and grateful. Five years have flown by since the inception of my coaching business, a journey that began amidst one of the most challenging global events we have faced in recent memory—COVID-19.

The idea to launch a coaching service was born out of necessity and observation. Like many during the pandemic, I noticed the drastic shift in lifestyles as people worldwide adjusted to a new norm, often within the confines of their homes. The need for at-home training services became apparent, as traditional fitness centers were indefinitely shuttered, having just been furloughed from Life Time Fitness at the time. I saw an opportunity to bridge the gap, to offer guidance and support to those who wanted to maintain their wellness despite unprecedented obstacles.

The early days were a whirlwind of Zoom calls, at-home workout plans, and virtual motivation sessions. While technology played a pivotal role in facilitating these connections, it was the human element—the camaraderie and shared commitment to personal growth—that truly made this endeavor fulfilling. Working with each client, from those chasing new fitness goals to those seeking mental fortitude, has been a joy and a privilege. Every session has been a reminder of the resilience and determination people possess, even in the face of uncertainty.

Throughout this journey, I have learned as much from my clients as, I hope, they have learned from me. Each individual brought their own story, their own challenges, and their own triumphs. In navigating these with them, I too have grown—not just as a coach, but as a person. This business has been a testament to the power of adaptability and the importance of listening, both to oneself and to others.

There's a saying that goes, "It's not the destination, but the journey that counts." Indeed, this five-year milestone is a marker of progress, but also a reminder of the continuous path ahead. The field of coaching is ever-evolving, much like the world we live in. The lessons learned from adapting to remote coaching during the pandemic have laid a strong foundation, but the journey of growth, both personal and professional, is far from over.

As I look to the future, look forward to focusing on amore holistic approach to coaching, specifically with a focus on mental health and how the addition of nutrition, sleep, and actual recovery not only support but provide the foundation of our fitness pursuits.

I remain committed to the pillars of Fitness, Community, and Adventure that have guided this business. The last five years have been an incredible chapter, and I am excited to see where the next five will lead.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, whether as a client, a cheerleader, or a silent supporter. You're the reason this business exists and thrives. Here's to more growth, more learning, and more shared successes in the years to come.
